Change hurts, but this hurts more

It was 51 degrees and sunny when Hazel (my Belgian Malinois) and I got out on the trails in Scottsdale recently.

We hiked 4.65 miles and 1000 feet of climbing. It felt amazing.

Of course, I stopped to take a picture of us.

Hazel gets super annoyed with me when we stop for any reason, especially pictures.

I keep telling her that she’ll be glad I took them “one day.”

Okay, probably not. 😂

But let’s talk about “one day” for a sec.

Your present day used to be your one day.

And knowing what you know now, if you could go back and tell your younger self to make different choices, what would you tell her (or him)?

I know you can’t change the past, but seriously, stop and think it over for a minute.

Would you tell past you that she’s worthy and loved?

Would you tell her it’s not her fault that her parents were who they were?

Would you thank her for the choices she’s made, or ask her to make different choices?

And what about future you?

Is future you gonna thank you for the choices you’re making now?

Or is future you gonna wish that current you was doing something different?

I’m not asking you this to make you feel bad if you know you’re not making the best choices in some way.

We ALL struggle with this kind of thing.

What I’m asking you to do is the same as always.

Be honest with yourself.

As the saying on the January 10 Pound Takedown swag shirt said:

Change hurts. Regret hurts more.

If there’s one thing you don’t wanna have on your deathbed, it’s a bunch of regret.

And if you’re reading this, you’re obviously not dead yet.

That means it’s not too late to be different. To make different choices. To clean up your health and make sure the years you’ve got left have a great quality of life where you’re capable of doing the things you wanna do.

If you’re not sure where to start – or where to continue – then join me for the next 10 Pound Takedown on Facebook.
