I got this question about getting started when you’re just not feeling it:
“I lost 70 lbs with this Code Red. Lost control & put 40 back on. I just can’t seem to get started again!!! I still drink gallon of water & know what I need to do but can’t seem to get a gripe & start!!!”
I know exactly how crippling and debilitating it can be when you just can’t get started. There are two things I’m gonna suggest for you.
The first one includes a little tough love:
If you REALLY, REALLY wanted to get back on track ENOUGH, you would. Your why isn’t strong enough anymore.
So let’s do something about that.
Make a list of things you want to see change with your weight loss. WHY do you want to get those 40 pounds off?
For example, is it the increased energy? Better intimacy with your partner? Less brain fog? Smaller clothes? Less pain in your hands and knees? Feeling confident in dressing rooms? Something else?
Whatever it is, write it ALL down. As many things as you can think of. Get down and dirty with how you feel.
Then film a video of yourself telling you WHY you want this. Be really honest and vulnerable.
When you start to slip, pull up that video of yourself and watch it.
The second suggestion I have for you is this:
Baby steps.
People don’t like baby-stepping back into success. They want to jump all the way back in. Except, they don’t, and end up paralyzed.
So if you’re paralyzed, start with baby steps.
If you can’t get all the way back on track, what CAN you do?
Let me give you a personal example of what I mean.
I once went a full year without going to the gym even ONCE. I just could NOT get started.
(Side note: I’m in maintenance. We don’t exercise for weight loss on Code Red.)
So, I took baby steps to get myself back into a regular workout routine.
“Okay Cristy, all you have to do today is put your gym clothes on.” So I did. Then I took them right back off, and praised myself for putting them on.
The next day, I added one more baby step: “Today, all you have to do is put on your gym clothes and walk down the hall to the elevator. Then you can come right back.”
The next day, I added another baby step to the first two. “All you have to do today is put your gym clothes on, walk to the elevator, and ride it down to the fifth floor, where the gym is. Then you can come right back.”
The day after that, I did all of the above, but added going into the gym and sitting on a mat on the floor.
The day after that, I added 10 pushups.
And so on, until I was going to the gym regularly again.
You can do the same thing with the Code Red Lifestyle™.
You’re still drinking a gallon of water a day, which is amazing.
Now, can you stop eating by 6:00 PM for the rest of the week?
And once you’ve done that, can you include a vegetable every time you eat? Even if you’re still eating stuff like Snickers bars, can you eat some broccoli with it?
Bottom line: Getting crystal clear on your why and using baby steps to ease back into weight loss mode without overwhelming yourself will go a long way towards getting off those 40 pounds you gained back.
Final thought: If your WHYs are really strong, but you’re struggling to get started all on your own, do one month of VIP Connection.
Yes, that $397 might hurt a little bit, and that’s the point. You need some skin in the game. You need it to hurt so you take it seriously.
And then, after you sign up for VIP, give it your ALL for one solid month.
(FYI that I’ve got a VIP special coming up in mid-July, so that’d be a great time to do it.)
