Loss can do a number on anyone, and you won’t usually see it coming.
I say that from personal experience.
At the end of 2023, I unexpectedly lost my bodybuilding coach and was in a toxic relationship (which I ended, but not until after it turned toxic).
And the combination of major loss and other tough things hitting all at once sent me into a BAD spiral of weight regain.
A lot of people on Code Red have a similar story, in that they were doing great with their weight loss…then lost something or someone and tried to cope with it by eating.
A pet, a parent, a partner, a child, a friend…or a job, a home, a car, a relationship…
It can be BRUTALLY painful to go through any kind of loss.
And healing from all that grief?
It’s a lot more complicated than Facebook memes and YouTube shorts would have you believe.
Plus, grief doesn’t follow a timeline (that’s a common myth). Some people grieve for six months, but others grieve for years.
Tim Ringgold, my guest on an episode of my Rebel Weight Loss & Lifestyle podcast, assures us that you CAN heal from grief, which is great news…because it doesn’t always feel like it.
(And you may even feel guilty at the thought of healing…as if you’re somehow not honoring the memory of your loved one if you heal from the grief of losing them.)
If loss of a loved one has you hurting (and maybe even feeling trapped or stuck), then give my podcast episode with him as a my guest a listen (see below).
He’s been through several devastating losses himself, as you’ll see and hear.
He’s the real deal and can help you navigate your loss.
Or, if you know someone going through a loss, this episode will equip you to be there for them without making the blunders we’re often afraid of making when we try to comfort someone who’s grieving.
